Spencer Municipal Utilities (SMU) was awarded the Small Company 2015 Corporate Cup from Live Healthy Iowa. SMU teams had over 66% participation and over 89% completion in the program from participants. 42 SMU employees and spouses participated on 5 teams in the 2015 Live Healthy Iowa Challenge.

by Cedar Falls Utilities Cedar Falls Utilities (CFU) will save $3 million in interest costs after completing a planned refinance of outstanding electric revenue bonds last week. The bond sale refinances revenue debt originally issued in 2005 and 2007 when interest rates were higher. Last week Moody’s Investors Service rated the new bonds Aa2, upgrading the Electric Utility’s debt rating from Aa3. Moody’s cited the Cedar Falls Municipal Electric Utility’s sound financial operations and modest debt burden, along with favorable economic conditions in the region, as reasons for the bond rating upgrade. by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is notifying all certified Water Treatment, Water Distribution, and Wastewater operators that their current Iowa certificate will expire on June 30, 2015. Renewal Applications are now available under each operator’s individual details on our On-Line Database at https://programs.iowadnr.gov/opcertweb/pages/opmenu.aspx. Paper copies were sent by mail on Monday – Wednesday (May 4-6th) this week. If you have not received your copy by Friday, May 15th, please contact us at 515/725-0463. Morris replaces Neal Drefke, former GM at Spencer Municipal Utilities, who had served on the Iowa One Call Board for a number of years.

To help ensure that workers have a voice in their workplaces and the protection they deserve, on April 28 OSHA unveiled a new version of its "Job Safety and Health – It's The Law!" poster. The poster informs workers of their rights, and employers of their responsibilities. Just a friendly reminder that the 2015 IAMU Golfin’ Fore Safety event is quickly approaching! This year’s outing will take place Wednesday, June 24 at the Amana Colonies Golf Club in Amana, IA. The annual outing provides a day of fun and fundraising in support of IAMU safety training. All proceeds are used to purchase equipment for the IAMU Safety & Training Field, for the benefit of all IAMU members. A Minnesota company that is assisting the US Department of Agriculture with cleanup from the Avian Flu outbreak is looking for trees and logs to use for wood chips. Denali Companies, which has operations in Minnesota and Estherville, Iowa is offering to come to a community and process the wood debris at no charge if the quantities of available wood are great enough to justify the trip.
