The 2015 Municipal Broadband Conference hosted by IAMU drew 69 attendees, 53 vendor representatives, and 32 vendor exhibits during it's two-day run at the Ramada Tropics Resort and Conference Center on March 18th and 19th.

IAMU will again be holding the Consumer Confidence Report workshops during April. This 2-hour workshop is a great refresher for those seasoned operators and clerks; and will cover the requirements for anyone new to this yearly report. Two hours towards water treatment or water distribution CEUs are available.
You can view the agenda, dates, and locations here. The Iowa Children’s Water Festival will hold its 19th festival on May 14, 2015 at the DMACC Campus in Ankeny. This is a day filled with over 2,000 5th grade students from across the state, 200 volunteers, and over 60 presenters/exhibitors learning and talking about all things water.

If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a hundred times, “I wish our board understood what we do every day.” Getting members of your utility boards or councils educated on the workings of a utility can be very challenging. A popular annual fundraiser for the Water Environmental Technology Program at Des Moines Area Community College returns in August.
"Shrimp & Bingo" will be held on Saturday, August 22nd at the FFA Enrichment Center on the DMACC Ankeny campus. The event raises money to be used for student scholarships. CGI is the regional partner of Common Ground Alliance that has established consensus standards (best practices) to prevent underground facility damages. IAMU participated in two CGI vendor events this past month to get the word out to agriculture on the One Call requirements for farming operations. IAMU is soliciting presentations for its 2015 Energy Conference at the Airport Holiday Inn - Des Moines, on November 4 and 5, 2015. Presentations should be approximately 30-40 minutes in length.
Suggested topics include power supply and generation, distribution systems of the 21st century, innovative methods to engage customers in energy efficiency, and utility operations. However, all relevant proposals will be considered. If you are interested in submitting a proposal for consideration, please submit your contact information and bio or relevant experience, presentation title, and a presentation description of 500 words or less, to energyconference@iamu.org by May 15, 2015. Decisions will be announced shortly afterwards. The American Public Gas Association (APGA) will hold their annual Spring Gas Conference and Expo on March 23-25 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The conference features operations focused workshops aimed at field and supervisor level operating professionals. Supervisor and manager level operating professionals will want to attend the Everything DIM Workshop, focusing on the Distribution Integrity Management Programs (DIMP) regulation and integrity management. APGA’s John Erickson will be a speaker on this program. Engineering professionals will benefit from the Gas 201: Distribution System Design for System Expansion and Reinforcement.
